Welcome to the Olympian Drive Extension Project website! As part of a multi-agency effort, the city of Urbana is leading the Olympian Drive Extension Design Phase that provides an east-west connection between the northern boundaries of Urbana and Champaign. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is funding the design project, which is the next step in securing needed federal funding for construction.
The Champaign-Urbana Urbanized Area Transportation Study (CUUATS), the local metropolitan planning organization, received the Olympian Drive Extension Design Phase funding in November, 2009. It unanimously approved and included Olympian Drive in the Transportation Improvement Program, assigning Urbana as the lead agency. CUUATS is comprised of representatives from area local governments. The CUUATS members listed below serve as the Olympian Drive Steering Committee. They provide information and insight to the Olympian Drive Extension project team.
The Steering Committee members are:
Rita Black, Champaign County Regional Planning Commission Director of Planning and Community Development
Jeff Blue, Champaign County Engineer
Dave Clark, City of Champaign Assistant City Engineer
Bill Gray, City of Urbana Public Works Director
